Training Methods and Philosophy

There are many and varied dog training methods used in the industry today. They range from positive, reward based methods, such as ‘lure and treat’, to punishment methods (we are sad to say) by use of instruments such as shock collars or chocker chains.Angel Paws is committed to using only humane, positive, reward-based training methods for all dog training and interaction. Absolutely no physical force or physical punishment is used.

It makes sense to train your dog where the problem occurs…..

Most, if not all, common training and/or behaviour issues occur in the home. Let’s look at an example; every time you open the front door, your beloved dog sprints past your legs into the great outdoors where there are strangers, other dogs and movingvehicles. To effectively address this issue, the training needs to take place in the same environment it occurs, the home. An issue less ‘environment specific’, such as jumping on visitors or pulling on the lead can be addressed in other environments such as parklands, where you are able to simulate what brings on the behaviour and resolve it.

No two dogs are alike…

Crucial to any type of dog training, is for the owner to understand that no two dogs are alike. Just like humans, dogs have varying levels of skill and ability to learn. Factors such as age, type of breed and behavioural tendencies/history all impact on the type of training required to get the best results. This is why Angel Paws tailors each training session to suit the specific needs of you and
your dog.
